About Us
The Broadstairs Herbal Apothecary was founded by Patina Blakeney, a Herbalist and Iridologist who wanted to share her knowledge of herbs and all her favourite products she's used over the years. Patina thought there was a lack of 'real' herb shops in England and that herbs should be on show especially as England has the most wonderful and ancient herbal tradition which is in danger of being forgotten. She feels you should be able to "see" the herbs on display like in the old days, and not have them fashioned in pill form. And, they should be sold by someone who knows about them! Patina wanted to see people take more control of their own health and enjoy such 'colourful and alive' medication.
Patina gained her Diploma of Botanic Medicine (with High Distinctions) in Sydney, Australia at the Australasian College of Natural Therapies in 1997.
Not being satisfied with the academic side, Patina has worked in retail and on several herb farms in England and Australia because "you can't really know the herbs unless you work with them at ground level".
Patina has manufactured many of her own tinctures. She has completed volunteer work for Greenpeace and Bushcare; several radio broadcasts for Iridology which were "rewarding"; and had several written pieces published.
A case history is taken initially which usually lasts about one hour. Any follow-ups (usually 1/2 hour) depend on the condition being treated, with chronic cases requiring more regular checkups. Several herbs are then blended together when the best treatment has been decided.
You can expect confidentiality and professionalism; individually prescribed herbal medicines with clear instructions plus dietary and lifestyle advice.
It is advisable to bring any current medications and/or supplements to the first consultation.

Initial Consultations are charged at £40.00 (children under 15 are £30.00), with follow ups at £22.00.
There is an £8.00 cancellation fee if 24 hours notice is not given.
